Great night of fights at the Fraser view hall - "fights at the view" - packed house lots of fun and another huge WIN for Team Universal MMA Oliver Evansher (1-0) fought a game and much bigger opponent from Vancouver Island Tyler Denniston who put up his perfect 2-0 record on the line. We took the fight out of our weight class but it didn't matter - Oliver pushed the pace used his wrestling and threw some devastating knees from the clinch in a tough fast paced and close first round Oliver was fresh and ready to go in the second but his opponent couldn't answer the bell for the second round due to exhaustion !!! All our hard worked paid off once again !!! And Team Universal MMA continues to come out on top !!! Thx to everyone who came out to watch and for all the support ! Oliver is now 2-0 - Two more fights for Oliver and we are looking to take the NAC 135 title ! Starting October 1 2009, Universal MMA - Vancouver will be offering a Junior Martial Arts program for kids 18 and under. This program will be a mix of Muay Thai Boxing and Submission Wrestling.
Come and try out the classes FREE for a week! Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30 - 5:30 pm and Fridays 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Universal's own Walker Patton has won a silver medal at Grapplers Quest in Las Vegas! This Grapplers Quest was put on in association with UFC 100 (who now owns Grapplers Quest). Walker won three matches by submission in his 1st tournament even after only 2 months of training! Congratulations Walker and we look forward in seeing more of our students training hard and participating in tournaments.

We have also added a Saturday wrestling drop-in class. This is a drop-in class where everyone is welcome, it is $10 and no commitment or membership is required. Looking forward to seeing new faces! The Tuesday and Thursday 5:30-6:30 classes will now run from 5:15-6:30, an extra 15min. See you at the academy! The 2008 West Coast Submissions Championship takes place on Saturday, September 13th at the Fight Pit Fitness & Training Center located at 11915 224th Street in downtown Maple Ridge.
This is a unique Round Robin tournament without elimination where the only way to win is by submission. Weigh-in takes place between 9:00am and 9:45am and the tournament will start at 10:00am. Every competitor will ght up to 8 times opponents of varying skill levels. Competitors may wear a Gi or grappling shirts and shorts, but only gi jackets and pants can be grabbed by opponent.
